The French Electricity Union (UFE) continues to welcome new members, thereby strengthening its representation across the entire electricity system value chain: from generation using all low-carbon technologies, to transmission and distribution networks, energy suppliers and energy efficiency service providers, as well as storage facility operators, demand response programme operators and consumption management system operators. NW has just joined the UFE’s board of directors.
Founded in 2007, NW is the French leader in battery-based electricity storage and a pioneer in high-power charging for electric vehicles. The company is also an expert in renewable energy. NW joined the French Tech Next40 in 2023, becoming France’s first energy transition unicorn in June 2022. The group develops distributed electricity storage units (JBox®) and high-power charging stations for electric vehicles (IECharge®). This unique combination of solutions is protected by world-class patents. By the end of 2023, NW had over 400 MW of storage in operation in mainland France, alongside 110 high-power charging stations. These stations, which are located throughout the country, are primarily situated in rural and suburban areas.
In accordance with the federation’s values, the UFE Board of Directors approved the membership application. NW will participate in discussions and joint initiatives aimed at steering the energy system towards carbon neutrality. In particular, the group will contribute to discussions on topics related to energy storage and grid flexibility.
UFE and NW : Converging Visions
According to Jean-Christophe Kerdelhué, Founding President of NW: “ NW is proud to join UFE, a major player in the electricity sector. Today, energy storage is an integral part of the electricity system’s value chain. The flexibility we provide to the grid through our storage units supports the energy transition. The UFE shares NW’s vision, seeking to accelerate the transition to carbon-free energy. ”
According to Christine Goubet-Milhaud, President of the UFE: “I am delighted that NW is joining the UFE. Innovation has been at the heart of their work since 2007, and their storage solution is a French innovation that optimizes power demand on electricity grids and supports the development of electric mobility. The UFE is essential for building and developing, together with all current and future stakeholders in the value chain, a systemic approach for the short, medium, and long term. To support the electrification of energy use, integrate a growing share of decentralized generation, and manage our consumption while taking into account electricity transmission and distribution networks, the development of innovative technologies is essential. This increases the flexibility of our electricity system, which is a key challenge of the energy transition. ”
About NW
Since 2007, NW has been developing various solutions to make the energy transition accessible to everyone. As France’s first energy transition unicorn, NW is the French leader in electricity storage, with its JBox® distributed storage unit. NW is also a pioneer in high-power electric vehicle charging, thanks to its IECharge® technology.
As a key player in the energy transition at the local level, NW relies on patented technology that enables a unique combination of distributed storage and high-power charging stations. The Group thus contributes to the development of new energy sources, primarily in rural and suburban areas.
Through these innovative solutions, NW aims to increase the share of carbon-free energy in the electricity mix, supports grid stability, and contributes to the development of electric mobility in France and internationally. NW is part of the French Tech Next40 program. It has also been awarded the “Solar Impulse” label.
