A successful first half-year for NW !

Post on 16 July 2024 | Updated 29 April 2026

For NW, the first half of this year was characterised by growth and the completion of a number of new projects. By the end of June, 400 JBox® energy storage units were in operation in France. In the electric mobility sector, 126 IECharge® high-power charging stations are now operational.

For NW, the first half of this year was characterised by growth and the completion of a number of new projects. By the end of June, 400 JBox® electricity storage units were in operation in France. In the electric mobility sector, 126 high-power IECharge® charging stations are now operational. These are located throughout France, particularly in rural and suburban areas. Meanwhile, NW has continued its international expansion, particularly in Finland, Texas, Italy and Sweden.

During the first half of the year, NW also joined the 2024 cohort of the French Tech Next40. This is the second consecutive year that the group has been recognised as one of the 40 highest-performing start-ups in the French ecosystem. French Tech Next40 recognises the 40 winners as leaders of the national economy.

Our first international JBox® has been installed in Finland !

This is a significant milestone for our international expansion. In late May, the first JBox® in Finland was installed in Kuohu, in the south of the country. This pilot unit will help us to gain a better understanding of the Finnish electricity market and pave the way for the large-scale deployment of our storage units in Finland, which is set to begin in the second half of this year. Like the French JBox® units, this solution will provide system services to the power grid, thereby maintaining grid balance and ensuring a continuous energy supply.

In the French energy markets, the second quarter concluded with the opening of the secondary reserve capacity market. From now on, any market participant capable of offering balancing services to the power grid can enter this market, which was previously reserved for a select few. NW chose to enter the secondary reserve capacity market as soon as it opened. Currently, JBox® units provide system services for both primary and secondary reserves.

NW, a leader in local flexibility

During the second quarter, Enedis (the distribution system operator) launched the fifth edition of its call for bids, which focused on local flexibility. The aim was to identify companies that can adjust electricity flows on the grid within specific areas.  Out of the 44 open sites, NW was awarded 41 lots, representing 93% of those in the call for bids. JBox® units will be installed in these areas. These units will provide system services and, upon request from Enedis, support the local grid by feeding electricity into it. NW is thus strengthening its position as a key player in local flexibility.

We couldn’t conclude this article without mentioning the new generation of JBox® units, the development of which has occupied many NW teams over the past six months. These JBox2 units are now being installed in France and internationally. The JBox2 units are better suited to meeting the needs of the power system.
